The first Saturday in May means linen blazers, gorgeous wide-brimmed bonnets and mint juleps, a tradition. The Kentucky Derby is an event that is celebrated throughout the country, an all day television spectacle for a two minute sporting event but worth it.
Another tradition in Denver is held at St. John's Cathedral, one of Denver's best known landmarks celebrated for its Gothic architecture. St. John's hosts The Kirkin o' the Tartan, a service featuring the Denver & District Pipe Band. Members and guests wear a bit of the traditional plaid to be entertained by the magnificent bag pipe, choir and massive organ music. If you missed it this year, go next year, it's worth it.
Tradition, as Papa sings in "Fiddler on the Roof", is the glue that bonds a family or a community, the pomp and circumstance of life.
