So what do Boulderites do when the University of Colorado hosts Homecoming on a beautiful Saturday in October? They come to Cherry Creek North, specifically NorthCreek! Acccording to Wikipedia, the eighty twenty principle was suggested by management thinker Joseph M. Juran and named after the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto who observed that 80 percent of income in Italy was received by 20 percent of the population. The buzz around Denver is the approval of the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District's plan by the Cherry Creek North Neighborhood Association. The CCNA Board announced that out of 328 votes 170 approved and 158 opposed. The approval was 51.8%.

The CCNNA Board and BID have negotiated an alternative Fillmore Plaza design that allows a street though the plaza but preserves a more pedestrian plaza design for the center and north end of Fillmore Plaza. The center and north end features in the alternative design include no vehicular parking, no curbs, a flat level surface and enhanced pedestrian amenities. The plan also calls for periodic street closures for events. As Cherry Creek North phases down on the "face-lift" the new plaza design will add the finishing touch.

The last week of September in Denver refreshed all the records for late summer temperatures. Sunday's afternoon sports saw sports fans wearing sun visors and reapplying the sunscreen. At Invesco Field, the temperature read 90 degrees, September 26th. Today, September 28th, the temps shot up near 90 and many a Denverite and tourists were seen in shorts, sandals and sunglasses.
Mornings in Washington Park are glorious this week with a variety of activities. The Hot Mamas exercise group convenes with strollers and babies to jog, dip and power walk around the park as an early morning work-out. Plenty of stay at home Dads and grandparents join the fun from time to time.
The Jiminy Wicket group was setting up the wickets and dusting off the mallets for a lively game of croquet. Later in the day, Bocce Ball games are available along with the usual game of tennis on the various courts. If you go to Wash Park, don't forget your camera, the gardens are riotous with zinnias and mums, kale and a variety of flowers that are still in full bloom.

Do the words Dornbracht Lulu and Alape Vessel ring a bell? How about Barclay semi- recessed and Cifial? Would you have guessed that we are talkling about bathroom faucets and sinks? Words like Thermador Sharp, Duet, Fisher Paykel, Wolf, Tru Stile, Acoustimat Enkasonic, Vantage and Toto are the norm when the designer and builder dialogue on the construction of the NorthCreek Courtyard Flat 301.

The master bath is spacious with two separate "hovering" vanities, a free-standing tub with airbath function, a steam shower and Toto water closet.
A separate catering/service kitchen is equipped with a GE profile refrigerator, a Bosch dishwasher, plenty of couter space and accessible to the laundry room with a Duet washer and dryer.
The unit has a controlled access elevator that goes directly to the 2190 square foot rooftop terrace with mountain and city views.
The Courtyard Flats at NorthCreek are unique, to Cherry Creek North and Denver.
Two of the Courtyard Flats have private guest houses. All the flats have controlled access elevators and offer one level living or the ability to combine/stack two flats for two story living.

There was a phone call into the Illuminate Gym in Denver, Colorado where someone was adamant about working out with me so of course we obliged. Our manager was really confused about some of the questions asked over the phone because the perspective client seemed very knowledgeable about what we did at Illuminate Gym, and it was also strange that she would ask specifically for me. I met with the young woman this Wednesday and I put her through an introductory workout that was by all accounts a bit more challenging than one of our first workouts. However, I assumed she could handle it as she was a personal trainer.



During the workout the personal trainer had trouble keeping up with the pace of 'High Oxygen Training' because it challenged her strength, stamina, and cardiovascular ability all at the same time. The workout lasted a little over 25 minutes and by the end she had found herself sitting on the ground trying to move some oxygen in and out of her lungs. She explained this was the hardest workout of her life again proving too me that 'High Oxygen Training' is one of the most effective training styles for both losing weight and challenging one's overall fitness. A few hours after the session the personal trainer wrote an email explaining that she didn't think she was mentally ready for our style of training. I guess our competitors are not keeping up with Illuminate Gym or High Oxygen Training.

We live in an unhealthy society today where the majority of us sit in front of computer all day and we feed ourselves to excess usually with foods that are filled with saturated fats, sugars and too much salt. The result is unhealthy habits that are leading to our rising obesity statistics and illnesses related to America's new found lifestyle. Cherry Creek North was a flutter with nearly 1,000 participants on a warm Saturday afternoon. The 5K Skirt Chasers event was held and the start time for the women was at 5 pm. The chasers, or the men, went at 5:03 pm and barely caught up throughout the entire race course. The 5K wound through the Cherry Creek North business and residential community with a block party celebration at the end. The race event was colorful and unique, with all the women in runner's skirts.
The lifestyle in Cherry Creek North is fun and active, and the community supports events such as the 5K Skirt Chasers and other fundraisers.

The princesses, many from the neighborhood, are all dance students at Cherry Creek Dance and the range was from 2 years of age to approximately 8 years. The parade was the culmination of a fun summer of ballet and tap under the direction of the studio's owner Stephanie.
There were several Snow White princesses, a handful of Cinderellas and a few Belles all escorted by doting parents and grandparents, and the not so doting sibling brother. The parade's final destination was the new frozen yogurt store across from the studio.

As personal trainers we always hear women say one key thing, ‘I don’t want to build too much muscle while working out.’ This is a common concern of many clients who are interested in hiring a personal trainer and you can almost see it in their faces as they walk into the gym and they see weight equipment…. All of sudden their eyes open and they start to have visions of them walking on a stage in a string bikini looking like a professional bodybuilder. ‘I don’t want to build too much muscle… I don’t want to look like a man… I don’t want my arms to get bigger…’ starts racing through these women’s minds.



If you are a person who is thinking about hiring a personal trainer don’t be concerned about building muscle. Many people have no idea how hard it truly is to build muscle. Now there is some truth that some of us have more of a genetic disposition to build muscle. However, it’s still a tough for a woman, or anyone for that matter, to build a substantial amount of muscle tissue. You see the issue is that our society has been jaded by the use of steroids. Steroids have actually changed our perception of what the human body is really capable of achieving either through muscle growth or human performance. Many women and men have seen photographs of bodybuilders and athletes who have changed their body’s chemistry to obtain muscle mass and they are convinced that they could look like that by training with a personal trainer twice a week.



The honest truth is to build a substantial amount of muscle you need to make sure you are eating enough calories and the right sort of calories to gain muscle. To lose weight you obviously need to eat less calories than you consume on a daily basis and to build muscle you have to eat more calories than you are burning. That being said a ‘bodybuilder’ must make sure that he/she is getting enough calories from fat, carbohydrates, and of course protein. Then it just takes a lot of hard work and some help with some genetics. Some people struggle for years just to gain 5 pounds of muscle.



The other side of this argument is what the heck is so bad about gaining muscle? Did you know that muscle burns 10 calories a day by just living in your body? That’s right. You see fat is not a living tissue, it’s merely storage, but muscle on the other hand is a living tissue that burns calories every day. So in my mind gaining muscle is actually a good thing because the more you have the more efficient and thermogenic your body becomes. And don’t worry about gaining bulky muscles ladies.
